Arsenal linked with a move for Ivorian star Ibrahima Bamba
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a January swoop for Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder Ibrahima Bamba, as per the Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via Express).
The 20-year-old joined the Portuguese side back in 2020 as a youth player before signing his first professional contract at the beginning of this year. He has established himself as a regular starter at the Dom Afonso Henriques stadium this campaign and has helped his side in finishing the first half of this term in the top half of the league table ahead of the World Cup hiatus.
According to the report by O Jogo (via Express), Vitoria Guimaraes are looking to raise funds this winter and Bamba has been identified as one of the potential options who can be sold for a big fee.
The report further claims that Arsenal are eyeing to make a move for the Ivorian this winter, however, the north London club are set to face competition from Ligue 1 giants PSG in getting the youngster’s signature.
The report also says that it is highly likely that the 20-year-old – whose current contract will run until 2026 – will be leaving the Portuguese club this January. He has a £26m release clause in his deal, however, the Gunners would be looking to get this deal done for a lesser fee due to the midfielder’s lack of experience at the highest level.
Ibrahima Bamba to Arsenal
Ibrahima Bamba could be a very good acquisition for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta is seemingly looking to add a new holding midfielder to his squad this January and the Vitoria Guimaraes man could be a useful addition.
However, he is still young and would need time before settling down in the Premier League. So, he might not be the option to make an immediate impact in Arsenal’s title charge this season if he were to join the club this January.
Arsenal have a glorious opportunity to overcome their 18 years of title drought this term. So, making moves for experienced players – who can slot straight into the starting eleven, when needed – would be the right decision by the club’s hierarchy this winter.
Therefore, I think although Bamba could be a good signing for Arsenal’s long-term future, focusing on making moves for established players could be a wiser decision for Arteta’s side in order to mount a title charge after the new year.
