Agent: “Arsenal Remain A Concrete Option”

The agent of goalkeeper Julio Cesar claims that Arsenal “remain a concrete option” for the player as he looks to secure a move away from Queens Park Rangers this summer.

We were heavily liked with a move for the Brazilian stopper last month and at one point it looked like he was set for a move to the Emirates, with Bookmakers refusing to take anymore bets on him becoming a Gooner.

However, the move stalled and he was quickly tipped to make a return back to Italy and join Napoli, but once again the deal fell through because the Serie A outfit refused to meet his £90,000-a-week wage demands.

With Pepe Reina now set to seal his year-long loan move to Naples, it leaves Cesar still searching for a new club and according to the 33-year-old’s agent, Josias Cardoso, Arsenal are still very-much in the running:

“Arsenal remain a concrete option. In Italy recently I have only spoken to Napoli. President Aurelio De Laurentiis wanted him but didn’t want to pay Julio’s current wages. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and after a great Confederations Cup performance he showed his desire to come back to Italy by demanding nothing more.

“It would’ve been normal for someone in his position to ask for a pay rise but he didn’t. Is there still hope of seeing him in Italy? If I don’t have official contact with a club, then I cannot have hope.” He was quoted as saying in the Independent.

I’ve said all summer that I think Cesar would be an excellent addition to our squad and I stand by that. He’s available at a very reasonable price, believed to be in the region of £2m, and he’d bring a wealth of experience with him that be benefit the development of Wojciech Szczesny.

The major stumbling block appears to be his wage demands but hopefully we can get something sorted as he’d sort out a troublesome position for us.
