Gervinho Agrees Terms With Roma But Arsenal Reject Chance To Sign Osvaldo
Gervinho has now agreed personal terms with Roma ahead of a potential move to Italy but Arsenal have rejected the chance to sign striker Pablo Osvaldo, according to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.
Reports earlier on Thursday claimed that officials from Roma were in London on Wednesday to hold negotiations with Arsenal over the signing of Gervinho, while the possibility of Osvaldo going in the opposite direction was also on the agenda.
It’s understood that the Serie A club tabled an offer of around £6.5m – £8m for the Ivorian, depending on which paper you read, and while we rejected their bid we gave the player permission to hold talks over the move as we weren’t far apart on our valuations.
The Daily Mail claimed Roma had offer Gervinho a four-year deal and now respected Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has revealed that personal terms have been agreed, but the two clubs are still about €1.5m apart on the fee.
Palmeri also claims that Arsenal have so far rejected the chance to sign striker Osvaldo as we’re concentrating our efforts on trying to sign Luis Suarez.

Arsenal have so far rejected chance to sign Osvaldo or to include him in a swap for Gervinho, explaining they are fully focused on Suarez

So it looks like Gervinho is close to securing a move away from the club. He arrived with an excellent reputation from Ligue 1 after two superb years with Lille, but sadly he’s failed to replicate that form in England.
A move is best for both player and club and if we can get anywhere near the reported £11m we paid back in 2011, we should count ourselves lucky. Hopefully we’ll have another high earner off the books shortly, then with any luck we can start to finally bring some players in to the club!
