Arsenal agree deal to sign Jorginho on deadline day
Jorginho has completed his medical tests and will sign an 18-month contract with Arsenal after a £10m deal was agreed with Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal have reportedly agreed to sign Chelsea star Jorginho ahead of today’s transfer deadline, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.
The Gunners have been busy in this winter window in order to strengthen the squad and continue their title charge this term. They have already acquired Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior’s services from Brighton & Hove Albion and Spezia respectively and are now on the verge of signing a central midfielder.
Moises Caicedo was thought to be the priority target to reinforce the engine room following Mohamed Elneny’s injury. Arsenal submitted two official proposals of £60m and £70m to purchase the Ecuadorian late in the window.
However, Brighton turned down both offers and remained adamant that the player isn’t going to leave in midseason despite the 21-year-old handing in a transfer request last week.
Therefore, after accepting defeat in pursuit of the Ecuadorian, Arsenal switched their focus to the alternative target and have moved swiftly to agree a deal to sign Jorginho from Chelsea.
Third Signing
The 31-year-old was given permission to travel to London to finalise the move and Fabrizio Romano claims that the Italian international has now completed his medical tests. Jorginho is now set to sign an 18-month contract with Arsenal paying Chelsea an initial £10m with a further £2m in add-ons.

The midfielder is a deep-lying playmaker who is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines and is also excellent at taking penalties. So, he would be a very good acquisition to support Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.
It was apparent that they needed a backup for Partey in the F.A Cup exit against Manchester City. After displaying a promising first-half performance, the Gunners lost control of the game after the interval following the Ghanaian’s substitution.
Jorginho possesses plenty of experience playing at the highest level and he is a ready-made option. So, the midfielder is a shrewd signing and he would certainly help the Gunners in their quest of winning the Premier League title this term and achieve success in Europe as well.
