Arsenal make firm move to sign Milinkovic-Savic next summer
Arsenal have made a concrete approach to sign Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and the midfielder is keen on joining the north London club next summer, as per the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
The 27-year-old has established himself as an integral part of the Biancocelesti’s first eleven since joining the club back in 2015. He has been displaying productive performances at the Stadio Olimpico this season, scoring four goals and notching up eight assists in 19 Serie A appearances.
Maurizio Sarri’s side have been enjoying an excellent campaign this term, sitting fourth in the table with 38 points from 20 games and the Serbian has been one of the catalysts of their success so far.
Sports Witness cites and translates the print version of Corriere dello Sport as saying that Milinkovic-Savic – whose current contract will run until June 2024 – has made the decision to leave Lazio in search of a new challenge and his decision is now ‘irreversible’.
Milinkovic-Savic to Arsenal
The report also says that the midfielder doesn’t want to leave for free so he wants to move away at the end of this season and Arsenal have made a firm approach to sign him. Milinkovic-Savic is open to moving to the Emirates Stadium in the summer after being impressed by the Gunners’ resurgence under Mikel Arteta this term.
Having asked over £85m over the last few years, the report suggests that Lazio could now lower their valuation and would accept a fee of around £50m (£44m) to let the Serbia international leave next summer.
It has recently been reported that Arsenal are looking for midfield reinforcements at the end of this season and are plotting a double summer swoop for Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo. Therefore, it seems highly unlikely that the north London club will make a move for Milinkovic-Savic if they manage to broker deals for both Rice and Caicedo.
Therefore, any move for the Lazio star will only happen if they fail to land their prime targets, but Milinkovic-Savic would be an excellent fall-back option.
