Romano lauds Arsenal’s new signing Leandro Trossard
Fabrizio Romano has heaped praise on Arsenal’s new January signing Leandro Trossard following the Belgian’s impressive display during the Gunners’ victory over Fulham this weekend.
The north London club entered the winter transfer window with the intention of signing a new wide attacker to strengthen their squad in order to maintain the title charge and identified Mykhaylo Mudryk as their primary target.
However, they missed out on signing the Ukrainian to city rivals Chelsea. And after failing to broker a deal for the 21-year-old, Arsenal opted to shift their focus to alternative options and decided to sign Premier League proven option Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee of around £26m.
The Belgian has been excellent since moving to the Emirates Stadium, and he displayed yet another eye-catching performance this weekend, registering three assists in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. And following this result, Arsenal maintain their five points cushion at the top of the league from the title rival Manchester City.
Romano heaps praise on Trossard
Meanwhile, writing on Caught offside, Romano has lauded Arsenal’s decision of signing Trossard this winter and also praised the Belgian international for his display this weekend.
Romano said:
“Arsenal were hugely impressive again yesterday, and Leandro Trossard in particular with three assists in the first half against Fulham – a new Premier League record.”
“In my opinion, it’s such a smart, good signing by Arsenal. I didn’t have any doubt to be honest. He’s a serious player, Premier League proven, wanted by Edu and Arteta in the most difficult moment after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk. Arsenal have been fast and smart, this makes the difference on the market.”
It appears missing out on signing Mudryk has ended up being a blessing in disguise for Arsenal as the Ukrainian has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since moving to Stamford Bridge, registering a solitary assist in seven appearances in all competitions for the Blues.
On the other hand, Trossard has been excellent in the Gunners’ colour since joining the club and has been helping Arsenal in maintaining the title charge, scoring a solitary goal and notching up five assists in 10 appearances in all competitions. So, Arsenal have seemingly got a better deal for a bargain fee in January.
