Arsenal keeping tabs on Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund
Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on the development of Atalanta forward Rasmus Winther Hojlund ahead of the summer window, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The 20-year-old has been enjoying a promising debut campaign at the Gewiss Stadium this season, scoring eight goals and registering a solitary assist in 25 appearances in all competitions.
After strings of impressive displays with La Dea this term, the Dane has been rewarded with a call-up to the national team squad for the ongoing Euro 2024 qualifiers. He marked his full international debut with a hat-trick last night in Denmark’s 3-1 win over Finland.
Having showcased his talent this season, the youngster has started to attract the attention of big European clubs with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
According to the report by Calciomercato, Arsenal have been monitoring Hojlund’s development ahead of the summer window and they are willing to pay a £44m fee to secure the forward’s signature.
Hojlund to Arsenal
But, the report claims that after Hojlund’s impressive display at the international stage, the £44m fee may not be enough to sign the Dane as Atalanta are likely to demand a more to let their star man leave at the end of this season.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato says that Arsenal are set to face a stern challenge from Newcastle United in luring the 20-year-old away from the Gewiss Stadium as the Magpies are also plotting a swoop for him.
Hojlund is an extremely talented player and he certainly has a bright future ahead if he stays fit and continues to develop. But, the 20-year-old still is a raw talent and needs regular playing time to flourish.
However, Arsenal are currently well-stocked in their number nine position so they may not be able to provide him regular playing time if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Therefore, the north London club may opt to purchase him at the end of this season and let him stay on loan at Atalanta for a couple of seasons to develop his career before integrating him into the first-team squad as Arsenal shouldn’t miss out on an opportunity of signing a talent like Hojlund if he becomes available this summer.
