Arsenal submit offer to sign Ilkay Gundogan this summer
Arsenal have reportedly submitted an official proposal to sign Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.
The 32-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this month. It has been suggested that Man City are desperate to keep hold of their star man and have offered a new contract to persuade him to sign an extension but, he hasn’t decided to commit his future with the Citizens yet.
So, speculation surrounding the German’s future continues to grow in recent times and it is increasingly likely that the midfielder will move away from the Etihad Stadium for free this summer.
It appears Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation and sign him to strengthen their midfield. It has widely been reported that the Gunners have prioritised strengthening their engine room in the upcoming transfer window.
They have been linked with numerous options over the last few months with Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo being mentioned as primary targets. But, Gundogan is reportedly on their radar as well.
Gundogan to Arsenal
According to the report by Sport, Arsenal are keen on signing Gundogan this summer and they have already submitted a two-year contract offer to acquire his services.
However, the report claims that purchasing Gundogan will be an extremely daunting task for Arsenal as Barcelona have also been showing a concrete interest in signing the German and the 32-year-old is open to moving to Camp Nou this summer.
So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal manage to persuade Gundogan to move to the English capital and beat Barcelona in this race. Mikel Arteta could play a pivotal role in convincing the City man to join the club as he previously worked together with the former Borussia Dortmund star during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Man City.
Gundogan has been enjoying a stellar campaign this term, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists in 56 appearances in all competitions, playing a key role in Man City’s quest of claiming a treble this term.
The City star – valued at around £22m by Transfermarkt – is an extremely talented player and would certainly bolster the Gunners’ midfield department if he were to join the club. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
