Arsenal submit opening bid to sign West Ham star Rice
Arsenal have reportedly submitted an opening proposal to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice this summer, as per football.london.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in the 2022/23 season, the Gunners have prioritised strengthening the engine room in this transfer window in order to challenge on all fronts from next season.
Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with the Englishman being mentioned as their primary target.
According to the report by football.london, Arsenal have submitted an opening proposal worth around £80m plus £10m in bonuses to secure Rice’s signature. However, the Hammers have turned down the offer and are demanding more money to let their star man leave.
It has previously been reported that West Ham want at least £100m to sell Rice but the Gunners aren’t prepared to match the East London club’s valuation. So, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal manage to persuade Moyes’ side to lower their valuation in order to get a deal done for the midfielder.
Rice to Arsenal
Meanwhile, football.london has reported that Man City have now also joined the race to sign Rice to strengthen their midfield department. So, it appears Arsenal are set to face a stern challenge from the reigning Premier League champions to acquire Rice’s services.
But, writing on Twitter, Fabrizio Romano has said that despite the Citizens’ interest, Arsenal remain the favourite to sign Rice and they will make a new improved bid over the coming days to secure the 24-year-old’s signature.
The journalist further claims in a different Tweet that Arsenal have progressed significantly regarding the personal term with the player over the last few days. So, Mikel Arteta’s side are confident that they would be able to purchase Rice this summer.
Romano wrote:
“Man City, informed on Rice deal but Arsenal remain favourites – they’re expected to bid again.
“Arsenal have significantly advanced on Declan Rice’s personal terms in the last few days — that’s why Arsenal will bid again to find a solution with West Ham.”
Rice has showcased his talent for club and country over the last few years. So, he would be a statement signing for Arsenal if they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
