Arsenal contemplating summer swoop for Sacha Boey
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a summer swoop for Galatasaray star Sacha Boey, as per the French football expert Jonathan Johnson.
After Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury-plagued campaign last term, the Gunners have seemingly decided to sign a new right-back this summer to strengthen the defence.
Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Joao Cancelo, Iván Fresneda and Timothy Castagne being among them. But, Boey is reportedly on their radar as well.
Most of the reports regarding Arsenal’s interest in the Frenchman have been coming from Turkey in recent weeks. But, now writing on Caught Offside, Johnson has claimed that Arsenal are indeed interested in the 22-year-old and they have been keeping a close eye on him ahead of a potential summer move.
The journalist further claims that Boey is a highly talented fullback – who is efficient in defensive contributions as well as going forward. So, it is understood why a club of the Gunners’ stature are plotting a swoop for him.
Boey to Arsenal
However, Johnson feels that Boey is not ready enough to take the leap of joining Arsenal yet as the Premier League is a level above the Turkish league and it’s difficult to perform in the English top-flight.
Johnson wrote:
“Sacha Boey is impressing at Galatasaray and is now understood to be on the radar of clubs like Arsenal. We’ve seen his attacking qualities from full-back, and he puts in a shift defensively too, so it’s easy to see why that kind of profile is appealing to some top sides.
“In terms of Arsenal, I’m perhaps not 100% convinced he’s ready for a move like that just yet, but he has been an unexpected success since leaving France for Turkey – the Premier League is obviously a level up from that, though it’s still not an easy environment to thrive in.”
It has been suggested that Galatasaray want a fee of around £21m to let their star man leave. So, Mikel Arteta’s side could be able to sign the defender at a reasonable price should they opt to make a move for him.
With Arsenal looking to sign a new right-back, Boey could be a good acquisition with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether the North London club eventually decide to formalise their interest in the Galatasaray star to reinforce their backline.
