Ex-midfielder urges Timber to join Arsenal over Man Utd
Former midfielder turned pundit Urby Emanuelson has urged Ajax Amsterdam star Jurrien Timber to join Arsenal over Manchester United.
The Red Devils prioritised signing the 22-year-old last summer to strengthen their defence. But, the Netherlands international opted to remain in the Dutch capital so a deal fell through.
However, it is looking likely that he will move away from Johan Cruijff ArenA in this transfer window and Man Utd have reportedly decided to reignite their interest having failed to purchase him last time around.
However, it has recently been reported that Arsenal have now also entered the race to sign Timber and they have already submitted a formal £30m bid after agreeing on personal terms with the defender. So, it seems the Gunners have stolen a march on Man Utd in this race.
It has also been suggested that although Ajax want £50m to sell their star man, the North London club are optimistic the Dutch side will lower their valuation and a deal can be agreed on over the coming days.
Timber to Arsenal
Speaking to VoetbalPrimeur, Emanuelson has said that Timber is a great talent and possesses the potential to become a world-class defender.
The ex-midfielder further states that the Dutchman should join Arsenal due to the fact that the Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta has showcased his ability to develop young talents over the last few years. So, the Emirates Stadium would be the perfect destination for his development.
Emanuelson said:
“Timber has had a few good years. Maybe a little less last season, but in my opinion, he is a very great talent. I would choose Arsenal. Why? They treat young players very well there. If you see how they deal with Martinelli, Odegaard, Saka… They are all guys who are allowed to make mistakes and are made important at the same time.
“(Timber) has the potential to become the absolute top. That’s why Arsenal would be a good step. Arsenal is growing, they will build on that.”
Having come through Ajax’s youth system, Timber possesses the necessary qualities to play in Mikel Arteta’s system. So, he would be an ideal signing for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature this summer.
