Arsenal are set to commence their 2023/24 Premier League campaign on Saturday lunchtime when they will welcome Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.
Despite enjoying a brilliant season for the majority of last term, the Gunners ran out of gas during the business end and as a consequence of that, they lost out to Manchester City in the title race.
So, Arsenal have decided to spend big this summer to strengthen their squad in order to challenge on all fronts this season. Mikel Arteta’s side have already purchased Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by spending over £200m. They are also on the verge of signing David Raya from Brentford to bolster their goalkeeping department.
Expected Arsenal line-up against Nottingham
Raya’s arrival hasn’t become official yet so Aaron Ramsdale is expected to start the new season between the sticks for Arsenal having displayed an impressive performance in the Community Shield victory over Man City last weekend.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are expected to be the centre-back pairing for the Gunners this weekend, while Ben White is likely to start in the right-back position. So, Rob Holding, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kieran Tierney and Jakub Kiwior will all be among the substitutes.
Oleksandr Zinchenko was sidelined due to a calf issue last Sunday but he could return for this fixture, though it is unlikely that he is going to start tomorrow. So, new signing Timber is expected to continue in the left-back position as he did against the Citizens.
Thomas Partey should continue as the deep-lying midfielder and record-signing Rice could commence alongside the Ghanaian. Martin Odegaard would be the number ten for Arteta’s side.
So, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira will have to make do with a place on the bench. Jorginho could return after recovering from an injury issue but Mohamed Elneny will remain sidelined owing to an injury problem.
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz are likely to be the front three for Arsenal like it was last weekend. In that case, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard will be among the substitutes. Reiss Nelson could return after recovering from an injury but Gabriel Jesus isn’t in contention to feature having undergone knee surgery.
