Arsenal told to sign Youssouf Fofana to replace Partey
Arsenal should make a move to sign AS Monaco star Youssouf Fofana to replace Thomas Partey in the upcoming transfer window, as per Football London.
The Ghanaian joined the club back in 2020 from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £43m. After moving to the Emirates Stadium, the 30-year-old has managed to establish himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven over the last few years.
However, his persistent injury issues forced the Emirates club to spend big and sign Declan Rice from West Ham United to bolster their engine room.
It has been reported that Arsenal were open to letting Partey leave the club had they received an un-refusable this summer. Several teams expressed their interest in signing the African but none of those clubs managed to submit an offer that would persuade the Gunners to cash-in on their star man. So, a deal never materialised and he remained at the club.
However, after Partey’s latest muscle injury, it has become apparent that Arsenal can’t rely on him to help the club achieve success going forward. So, purchasing a new midfielder by selling Partey would be the right way forward.
Fofana to Arsenal
Football London states that Fofana is an ideal replacement for Partey and he possesses all the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League.
The report further claims that the Frenchman’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this season but there is an option to extend the deal for one more season so, he is expected to be available in a cut-price deal next summer.
Monaco accepted a £30m bid from Nottingham Forest to sell Fofana this summer before the player rejected the move. Therefore, the 24-year-old is likely to be available for even less than the £30m fee next summer if he doesn’t sign an extension over the coming months. So, Arsenal can manage to secure his signature for an affordable price should they make a concrete approach.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to sign the Frenchman to bolster their engine room in the upcoming transfer window if they let Partey leave the club.
