Pundit slams Arsenal’s new summer signing Kai Havertz

By on November 21, 2023

Former attacker turned pundit Jermaine Pennant has slammed Arsenal star Kai Havertz for his lack of productivity in front of goal and also says it’s bemusing to see Mikel Arteta is still keeping faith in him.

After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea in a £65m deal last summer, the 24-year-old has struggled to showcase his best for the Gunners in recent months.

However, Arteta recently revealed that although Havertz has found it difficult to score or assist this term, he is happy with the midfielder’s overall performance.

Now, during a recent interview, Pennant has heavily criticised Havertz and said that it’s not working out for the former Chelsea star at the Emirates Stadium.

The pundit further states that ‘it’s bizarre’ to see Arteta is still keeping faith in him, but the midfielder needs to be replaced in the upcoming transfer window as he has been very ‘poor’ this season.

Pennant says Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has been excellent this term and he would be a great signing for the North London club. So Arsenal should offer Havertz in a part-exchange deal to sign Wirtz next year.

Pundit slams Havertz

Pennant said:

“That Kai Havertz signing hasn’t worked. I thought I’d give him some time to settle in, but that period is over now. I think he’s been a poor signing. I don’t understand what he brings to the team as he’s not scoring or assisting. It’s bizarre as Arteta seems to believe in him.

“I think Arsenal should have gone for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. His footballing IQ is off the charts! He’s not a speed-merchant, but he’s clever on the ball and he seems to always pick the right pass. His assists are great, he has an eye for goal, and I think he’d be a fantastic addition to Arsenal. He’d fit in perfectly there. Wirtz would be a lot cheaper, and they should trade him in for Kai!”

Havertz has been tidy with the ball at his feet and has also showcased his willingness to work hard without possession. However, he has struggled to make his mark in the opposition box this term. He needs to improve that side of his game if he wishes to establish himself as a key player for Arsenal in the near future.

So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Havertz can turn his fortune around and prove his doubters wrong over the coming months.
