Romano says Arsenal will try to bolster two key positions

Arsenal will reportedly look to strengthen two key positions this year, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners enjoyed a stellar campaign this term as they were at the top of the Premier League table at one stage. However, after winning only one out of the last five league games, Mikel Arteta’s side have now lost ground in the title race.

They are currently fourth in the table with 40 points from 20 games, sitting five points behind the table topper Liverpool.

It has been suggested that Arsenal are willing to strengthen their squad by signing a couple of new signings in January to mount a title charge in the second half of this term. However, they can’t afford to spend big this month due to FFP regulations.

Now, speaking on The Daily Briefing, Romano has reported that Arsenal are keen on signing a new striker with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen being their primary options. However, both of them are too expensive for the North London club at the moment.

Arsenal looking to bolster two key positions

So, the journalist says that Arsenal have been struggling to bolster their frontline this month. But, Romano states that Arsenal also want to sign a new right-back and they ‘will try’ to purchase one before the end of this window.

Romano said:

“At the moment they haven’t found a good or a normal option at the moment, all of the players they like are either very expensive or not on the market like Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen. I am sure they will try for a full-back and I am sure they will try for a striker.”

Arsenal have struggled with injury problems this season with the backline being the most affected area. Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu have struggled with injury problems this season, while Ben White has found it difficult to showcase his best in recent times.

So, signing a new right-back would be a shrewd decision for Arsenal. Jeremie Frimpong has been mentioned as a serious option for the North London club and it is going to be interesting to see whether they eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him in this winter window.
