Arsenal told they can sign Callum Wilson for a bargain deal
Arsenal have been made aware that they can sign Newcastle United star Callum Wilson for a fee of just around £18m before the end of this window, as per The Standard.
The Gunners have seemingly been exploring the possibility of signing a new striker to reinforce their frontline and mount a title charge this season. Although they have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah at their disposal, none of them have managed to score goals consistently this season.
Several names have been mentioned as potential targets with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen being suggested as the primary options. However, neither of them is reportedly available in this winter window.
So, Arsenal have been forced to explore alternative options and they have recently been tipped to make a move for Wilson to bolster the attack.
Now, according to the report by The Standard, Newcastle need to raise funds to stay on the right side of Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules so they are ready to let Wilson leave for just around £18m. Therefore, Arsenal can manage to secure the Englishman’s signature in a bargain deal late in this window.
Wilson to Arsenal
However, the report claims that Manchester United and Chelsea have also been looking to sign a new striker in January so they could make a move for Wilson. Therefore, the North London club are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for the forward.
Wilson has showcased his goal-scoring prowess for Bournemouth and Newcastle in the Premier League over the last few years. So, the 31-year-old could be a shrewd short-term addition to Arsenal’s frontline.
However, the forward has struggled with fitness issues in recent years so Arsenal need to be careful about that before making any potential move for him.
Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Wilson before the end of this window to bolster their frontline.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace, Arsenal will face off against Nottingham Forest next week before taking on Liverpool in the Premier League.
