Arsenal open talks to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Arsenal have reportedly made ‘contact’ with Napoli ace Victor Osimhen over a deal to sign him, as per the Italian journalist Ciro Venerato.
Mikel Arteta took over the managerial job of the North London club back in 2019 when they were in a difficult situation. The Spaniard was handed free rein to rebuild the squad and bring the Gunners back to the top.
Arteta has done an exceptional job over the last few years as he has managed to turn Arsenal into a title challenger. The North London club were very close to winning the league title last term but eventually missed out to Manchester City.
The Gunners have enjoyed a promising campaign once again this term and they have been showing signs that they are one of the contenders to win the league this campaign, alongside Man City and Liverpool.
However, it has widely been suggested that Arsenal lack qualities in their centre-forward position and they need to address that issue to challenge on all fronts.
Arsenal have seemingly acknowledged that problem so they have been exploring the possibility of signing a new prolific striker. A few names have been mentioned as potential targets for Arsenal with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen emerging as the primary options.
Osimhen to Arsenal
Now, speaking on Rai 2(via Calcio Napoli), Venerato has reported that Arsenal have been showing concrete interest in signing Osimhen and they have already made ‘contact’ with the player’s representatives over a deal to sign him this year.
The journalist further claims that Osimhen is set to leave Napoli at the end of this season and he has a £119m release clause included in his current contract. So, Arsenal will have to break the bank to lure the African to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Venerato states that Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG have also expressed their interest in signing Osimhen so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for the striker.
Osimhen is deemed one of the best strikers in the world so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club can eventually manage to secure his signature to reinforce the frontline.
