Arsenal ‘taking concrete steps’ to sign Brentford ace Toney
Arsenal are reportedly ‘taking concrete steps’ to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney this summer, as per the transfer journalist Rudy Galetti.
The 27-year-old’s future at the Gtech Community Stadium is currently hanging in balance as he is set to enter the final year of his current contract and has made it clear that he wants to leave the club to take the next step in his career.
The North London club reportedly want to sign a new prolific striker to take the next step in their rebuild under Mikel Arteta’s guidance and have identified the Englishman as their primary option.
Writing on Tribal Football, Galetti has reported that Arsenal are ‘taking concrete steps’ to sign Toney and they are ‘confident’ to persuade the striker to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The journalist further claims that Brentford could accept a fee of around £55m to sell Toney so Arsenal will have to spend a big fee to secure his signature. Galetti also states that other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen on signing the striker but Arsenal are ‘best positioned’ to purchase the 27-year-old.
Toney to Arsenal
Toney enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, but he couldn’t manage to feature during the first half of this season due to his lengthy suspension having been found guilty of breaching the betting rules. The striker has continued to display impressive performances for Brentford in recent times after returning from lengthy lay-off.
So, the Englishman is a Premier League proven striker and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure the forward’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.
It has been suggested that along with Toney, Victor Osimhen is also on Arsenal’s radar to reinforce their frontline. So, if the Emirates club can manage to purchase either striker then it will be a great coup for Arteta’s side.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 5-0 victory over Burnley, Arsenal will face off against Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.
