Arsenal eyeing move to sign Brighton starlet Evan Ferguson
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson to satisfy their need for a top striker with club scouts regarding the 19-year-old as a ‘huge’ talent.
The Gunners’ Sporting Director, Edu, recently stated that they are already working on summer signings, implying that possible targets have been identified. These claims will undoubtedly catch the attention of gossip columns eager to ‘unmask’ the players that the Gunners are interested in.
Arsenal’s desire for a premier striker is well-known and several players have been linked. According to Football Insider, Evan Ferguson is one of the transfer options being considered.
As per the report, Arsenal scouts consider him a “huge talent” with the ability to play in the Champions League and become a top striker. The Gunners’ interest probably stems from their perception of his potential. Though they’re not alone, as other PL sides are also appreciative of the striker.
The Republic of Ireland’s number nine had a huge impact in the second half of last season. He scored six goals and supplied two assists in 19 league appearances, prompting speculation that he could be the Premier League’s next top striker. This season, he has only scored six goals in 24 league appearances, falling slightly short of expectations.
Big money needed
However, he’s still attracting huge interest and clubs like Arsenal will need to pay big money to sign him. Transfermarkt values Ferguson at around £56 million, but some reports suggest Brighton will demand a lot more.
Arsenal have had success with players from Brighton having sign Leandro Trossard and Ben White from the Amex Stadium. They have both been hugely successful in North London, and Arteta will hope Ferguson can follow in their footsteps if he ends up joining this summer.
Ferguson, as ‘raw’ as he is, has the potential to be moulded into the striker Mikel Arteta envisions for his dream Arsenal team. The Arsenal manager has demonstrated his ability to turn emerging talents like Bukayo Saka into world-class players.
Plenty of other tried-and-tested striker options have been linked, but Evan Ferguson would be an exciting long-term option for Arsenal.
