Arsenal ‘most active’ to sign Joshua Zirkzee this summer
Not long after Joshua Zirkzee was revealed as a top Arsenal striker target, Milan Live has now dropped an interesting update on that potential swoop.
There is no doubt that the Gunners will recruit a top striker in the summer; the only question is who that will be. Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney, Evan Ferguson, Viktor Gyokeres, and Zirkzee are all linked.
Mikel Arteta faces a difficult assignment in settling on the striker to bolster his attack. However, while the Arsenal manager and his technical bench examine who suits their project, there will be hurdles to overcome once they have identified their dream striker.
For the purposes of this piece, let us assume that Zirkzee is Arsenal’s top striker target. The Gunners would need to spend around £38.5 million on his transfer. That should be cheap and a bargain, given that deals for alternatives could be costly (£50 million plus).
A move for Zirkzee is economically viable, but the Gunners have transfer rivals to contend with.
Arsenal lead the Zirkzee Chase
A number of other clubs want the Dutchman; AC Milan being one. According to Milan Live, the Italian giants see the player as one of the ideal additions to their attack; they believe he can effectively replace ex-Gunner Olivier Giroud.
However, Milan Live notes that Arsenal are among the clubs being ‘most active’ in trying to sign Zirkzee. Premier League rivals Spurs and Manchester United are also mentioned as serious suitors for the youngster.
It’s fantastic to hear that the Gunners are in a strong position to sign the 22-year-old, but they must now devise a strategy to beat their league rivals to that deal. Manchester United are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, while Spurs are also facing a battle to finish in the top four.
Arsenal are in a strong position to be playing Champions League football again next year and they’ve challenged for the title for the past two seasons, so they could be viewed as Zirkzee’s best option right now if he comes to England.
With 10 goals and three assists in all competitions, the on-the-rise No. 9 will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to any top club. The Arteta project clearly needs a clinical striker, and Zirkzee could prove to be the striker Arsenal need.
