‘Would rather see’ – Carragher makes Arsenal title claim after Man City and Liverpool draw

Manchester City compete with Arsenal and Liverpool for the Premier League title, and Jamie Carragher, on match of the day via HITC, wants Arsenal to beat City in their titanic clash later this month.

After beating Brentford 2-1, Arsenal climbed to the top of the Premier League, leading with 64 points as they awaited the Liverpool-Manchester City encounter which took place on Sunday.

Either City or Liverpool winning would have dropped Arsenal to second place, while a draw would have kept them at the top of the league.

Fortunately, on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool and Manchester City couldn’t be separated; they drew 1-1 at Anfield. That result was very advantageous to the Gunners, who have remained top. Arsenal are tied on points with Liverpool but have a better goal difference. Manchester City are in third place with 63 points, one point behind, so things couldn’t be tighter.

Arsenal vs. Man City the PL decider

In what could be a potential title decider, Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Man City on March 31st after the international break. Jamie Carragher is hoping Arsenal can do themselves and Liverpool a favor by defeating the ‘Cityzens’ at the end of the month to blow the title race wide open.

Carragher feels that with a favourable last five fixtures, City would be in pole position to retain the title if they beat Arsenal at home later this month.

“Even though Arsenal are top, from a Liverpool point of view I would rather see Arsenal go and win at the Etihad or a draw,” said Carragher via HITC.

“Certainly, not a City win because with City’s last five games of the season, you’d look at them and think they’ll get maximum points.”

Arsenal has already defeated Manchester City this season, so they should be confident of getting a positive result at the Etihad. Many people compared the Liverpool versus Manchester City game to a Premier League final, but it wasn’t; Manchester City versus Arsenal is. That game will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the title race.

In case you’re wondering what the last five fixtures for the top three are:

Arsenal: Wolves (A), Tottenham (A), Bournemouth (H), Manchester United (A), and Everton (H).

Liverpool: Fulham (A), West Ham (A), Tottenham (H), Aston Villa (A), and Wolves (H).

Manchester City: Tottenham (A), Nottingham Forest (A), Fulham (A), and West Ham (H).
