Arsenal tempted to swoop for £43m Benjamin Sesko

According to The Mirror, Arsenal could aim to take advantage of RB Leipzig’s striker Benjamin Sesko’s £43 million release clause to sign him this summer.

Arsenal had the weekend off before the international break due to the postponement of their match against Chelsea. Mikel Arteta and his side have plenty of time to recuperate and return stronger for the Premier League run-in, which starts with a huge clash with Manchester City on March 31st.

And as we wait for the Gunners to return to the pitch, we can’t help but wonder what the summer transfer window may bring for the North Londoners.

If going through the Arsenal rumour columns has told us anything, it’s that Mikel Arteta wants to sign a top striker this summer. The big question is who this striker might be.

Sesko for £43 million

While Arsenal have been linked with a host of players, the Mirror reports that Benjamin Sesko could be the striker Arteta goes for. The RB Leipzig hitman has scored 11 goals in 34 games for the German club, and with a £43 million release clause, Arsenal may want to take advantage of his affordable price.

Charles Watts recently suggested that Arsenal may not sign Victor Osimhen due to his hefty price tag. He argues that Edu and Arteta may need to spread the budget around various positions rather than spend £100m+ on one signing:

“That interest will remain, but the Nigerian could prove to be too costly an option in a summer given Arsenal want to spread their budget around as they look to take the squad to the next level,” said Watts.

To remain competitive, Arsenal just needs a ‘comprehensive’ summer transfer window, which may be feasible if they are clever in the transfer market.

Sesko at £43 million may be a good transfer gamble; his arrival could allow Arsenal to complete other key signings, as Watts suggests. Arsenal are expected to target a backup keeper if Aaron Ramsdale leaves, a central midfielder and a winger, as well as a striker, so Arteta needs to work smart in the market.
