Romano confirm Arsenal are keen on Viktor Gyokeres

Fabrizio Romano addressed Arsenal’s transfer ties to Viktor Gyokeres in his Daily Briefing, outlining what he knows about the rumoured summer bid.

Everything points to the Gunners signing a top striker ahead of next season. This summer, Arsenal plans to sign a marquee front-man. It is believed that Mikel Arteta is keen to recruit his own ‘Erling Haaland’ to ensure a steady supply of goals for his team.

A number of top European strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres emerging as a serious target.

We’ve been convinced over the past few weeks that the Swedish hitman, who has 36 goals and 14 assists for Sporting CP this season, could be on his way to North London. According to various reports, Arsenal may be willing to activate the striker’s £86 million release clause.

As confident as some Gooners were about Arsenal signing Gyokeres from different reports, Fabrizio Romano has made an intriguing claim about that potential deal.

Romano on Gyokeres-Arsenal rumours

The European transfer expert admits Arsenal like Gyokeres, but he is not their main striker target. Apparently, the Gunners scouting the ex-Championship striker frequently is them simply doing their due diligence before determining if he’s what their attack yearns for.

Anyway, if Arsenal decides to sign him, they’ll have to battle other teams for his signature. And that’s not all; Romano believes they should also be prepared to activate his release clause because Sporting may not let him go for less.

Romano revealed:

“Viktor Gyokeres is a player Arsenal are monitoring; for sure, he’s a player who is on their list. Arsenal have still not decided who will be their main target for the summer; they will first hold internal talks to make that decision, but I’m told that their scouts have been in attendance multiple times to follow Gyokeres.

“The Swedish striker is having a fantastic season at Sporting; he’s made an incredible contribution, but his release clause is there, and it’s €100 million. We know how tough it is to negotiate with Portuguese clubs—just look at Tottenham with Pedro Porro last January. I don’t see Sporting being flexible in negotiations, so it will be a tough one, but for sure Arsenal and other clubs in Europe have an interest, so Gyokeres will be part of the strikers domino this summer.”

Romano’s claims confirm that Arsenal are keen on signing Gyokeres but he’s not yet been identified as the No.1 target.

All Arsenal fans can do is trust Arteta and Edu to make the right decision and hope the club manage to sign their chosen hitman in the summer.
