Arsenal striker targets revealed; Gyokeres, Osimhen, and Isak make the list
Football London has provided an intriguing update on the type of striker Mikel Arteta desires for his project at Arsenal this summer.
As the transfer window approaches, Arsenal’s search for a striker is Europe’s worst-kept secret. It would be disappointing if a top hitman failed to move to the Emirates in the summer.
So, who could Arsenal sign?
Football London has attempted to determine who the Gunners have their sights on. They identify Viktor Gyokeres, who’s got 36 goals in 39 games, as the striker who possesses nearly all of the qualities they seek. However, they say he’s one of several strikers being considered by the North Londoners.
Feyenoord’s 22-year-old Santiago Gimenez, who has 24 goals in 35 games this season; FC Porto’s Evanilson, who has 22 goals in 34 games; and Ajax’s 22-year-old Brian Brobbey, with 20 goals in 38 games, are also targets.
Other targets include:
RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, who has 23 goals in 37 appearances; Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who has 16 goals in 23 games; Napoli’s 25-year-old Victor Osimhen, who has 13 goals in 24 games; and Newcastle’s 24-year-old Alexander Isak, who has 16 goals.
Looking at these targets, one thing is certain: they are all young attackers who, one could argue, have yet to reach their prime.
Football London says Arsenal are interested in signing a top young striker:
“Sources have explained that the top young striker category is the parameter to which they have narrowed their search. This would encompass a number of forwards across the world’s top leagues right now but also potentially exclude several previously talked about players.”
Given the above, it is clear Arsenal no longer have an interest in 27-year-old Ivan Toney, who was allegedly their top winter striker target and many expected was on Arteta’s hitlist for the summer.
Arsenal are clearly thinking about the future; they want to sustain their stay at the top by looking to strengthen Arteta’s squad with players they can count on for years.
Adding a quality frontman to this talented Arsenal squad should ensure the Gunners are able to compete on all fronts next season. The big question is who will Arteta end up signing?
