Arsenal linked to Italian goalie Michele Di Gregorio
According to Fichajes, AC Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio is on Arsenal’s list of possible replacements for Aaron Ramsdale this summer.
Whether or not they win the title, Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer transfer window. For Arteta’s project to move forward, he must improve their quality throughout the squad.
We can expect a move for a top scorer, a top midfielder, and possibly another versatile defender. However, the Gunners will also need to sign a new goalkeeper to act as support for David Raya.
Aaron Ramsdale is widely expected to leave this summer after falling out of favour. Raya arrived and “stole” his spot in the Arsenal line-up. Ramsdale has been restricted to making just a handful of appearances since losing the first team shirt back in August 2023.
The England international is set to leave the Emirates in search of regular action this summer, so Mikel Arteta will need to find another quality goalie to replace the 25-year-old.
Is Di Gregorio the perfect Ramsdale replacement?
Fichajes claims that Michele Di Gregorio is among Arsenal’s targets. With AC Monza, the former Inter Milan prospect has gradually established himself as one of Serie A’s best goalkeepers.
Promoted to Serie A in 2022 after years of trying, Monza have built a mid-table squad and Di Gregorio has been among their key players. In 138 outings for Monza, Di Gregorio has conceded 149 goals while preserving 52 clean sheets.
After impressing with Monza, a move to North London to play for the Gunners could be the next step in his career. However, it is improbable that if he joins Arsenal, he will be the first choice. Raya’s performances this season have ensured he’s Arteta’s first choice.
Arsenal will therefore need to persuade Di Gregorio to join the club and act as a No.2 next season. He’s valued at £13m by Transfermarkt so a deal shouldn’t break the bank.
The Gunners have other options in mind as they prepare for life without Ramsdale; free agent David De Gea, Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte, Sunderland goalie Anthony Patterson, and Ajax goalie Diant Ramaj are all named as other targets.
