Jorginho Arsenal Italy

According to Tuttosport via Football Italia, Arsenal are in talks with Jorginho’s representatives about extending the midfielder’s deal at the Emirates Stadium.

In the 2023 winter transfer window, the Gunners were keen to sign a central midfielder. They identified Moises Caicedo as their top target, and they even made offers to Brighton for his services.

However, the Seagulls rejected all the bids for their midfield powerhouse, and Caicedo was forced to remain at the Amex Stadium. The Gunners eventually signed a new midfield after completing a shock £12 million deal to sign Jorginho from Chelsea.

The Italian international proved to be a solid addition to the squad but he was expected to leave at the end of the season after struggling for regular game-time during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Jorginho contract extension talks underway

However, Jorginho has forced his way into Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven in recent months and has proven to be a key player in big games. We cannot discuss Arsenal’s 1-0 league win against Manchester City, 4-1 league win over Newcastle, and 3-1 league win over Liverpool without mentioning Jorginho’s top performance in each of these games.

When he plays, the Italian midfielder relieves Declan Rice of his defensive responsibilities, allowing the Englishman to express himself while capitalising on his exceptional technical abilities.

Jorginho makes Arsenal tick, so it’s no surprise Arsenal have now opened talks over extending his stay at the club.

According to Tuttosport, the midfielder wants to stay at Arsenal and talks are underway with his representatives about a new deal. The Gunners have the option to extend Jorginho’s contract by another 12 months and it appears they are now given serious consideration to triggering that option.

However, the report says Jorginho’s agents are also in talks with Serie A clubs because the player wants a back-up plan in-case his talks with Arsenal fail. Juventus have been strongly linked in recent months but it remains to be seen whether the Euro giants will be able to lure him to Italy.
