Ian Wright tells Arsenal to sign ‘special weapon’ as part of double swoop
Following Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich, Ian Wright, on the Wrighty House podcast via Football London, has urged Mikel Arteta to make two signings to help take Arsenal to the next level.
Though the Premier League battle still has six games to go, Arsenal fans are already pointing out areas where they want Arteta to improve in the summer as they prepare for next season.
For a while, the emphasis has switched from finding a top striker to strengthening other positions that have raised concern, such as left back.
Wright sends Arteta summer transfer plea
In response to Arsenal’s loss to Bayern, Ian Wright believes the transfer market is the key to Arsenal’s future success in such big-game clashes.
The Arsenal legend says Arsenal need a new left-back while also suggesting that Arteta needs to buy a ‘real’ midfielder who can give the team that ‘x factor’.
“I just feel like we’re inexperienced, and we’re just still short a couple of players,” said Wright on the Wrighty House podcast.
“I think he’s got to do something about the left-back slot, about a real midfielder that can pass it forward, who can get forward and hit those shots. We need that X-Factor player.
“We need somebody who can come in who’s totally different from everything else. Somebody who you can think to yourself at least that he’s that special weapon.”
Wright’s recommendation is sound; it is obvious that these two transfer suggestions would have a huge impact on this Arsenal team. Zinchenko has been disappointing, so Arteta needs to sign an upgrade at left-back.
Arsenal could also do with another top midfielder. Although Rice and Odegaard have cemented their places in the team, they need someone to play alongside them in the middle of the park.
Jorginho is past his best and Thomas Partey is expected to leave after another injury-plagued campaign, so it’s important Arteta signs a top class replacement.
