Arsenal ready to sell trio to fund Bruno Guimaraes deal

Arsenal are reportedly planning to sell Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson to raise funds to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes this summer, as per Football Insider.

The Gunners have been mounting a title charge this term but they are reportedly keen on reinforcing their squad this summer to continue challenging for the title next season.

It has been suggested that the North London club are keen on strengthening their frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer. However, signing a new midfielder to bolster the engine room is also on Mikel Arteta’s agenda amid the uncertainty surrounding Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny’s future.

Numerous midfielders have been mentioned as serious targets for Arsenal with Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana and Martin Zubimendi being among them, but Guimaraes is now emerging as the primary target.

According to the report by Football Insider, Guimaraes has a £100m release clause included in his current contract and the clause can only be triggered before the end of June.

Guimaraes to Arsenal

However, the report claims that having splashed big money last summer, the Gunners can’t spend that much sum to sign Guimaraes before the allotted time due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. So they are planning to cash-in on three of their academy graduates, Nketiah, Nelson and Smith Rowe, to raise funds as selling the youth stars means it is a pure profit.

Nketiah, Nelson and Smith Rowe haven’t been regular starters for Arteta’s side this term so cashing-in on them could be the right decision. However, the Spanish boss has alluded that Smith Rowe is on his plan so he doesn’t want to let him leave.

Guimaraes is a top-class midfielder and has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League in recent times. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, is efficient in defensive contributions and also works extremely hard without possession. So, the Brazilian would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to sign the South American to reinforce their engine room in the upcoming transfer window.
