Arsenal eye swoop to sign Benjamin Sesko this summer
Arsenal have reportedly expressed their interest in signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this summer, as per the German outlet Sky Deutschland.
After narrowly missing out on winning the title last term, the Gunners have been forced to settle for a second-place finish once again in the Premier League this season.
They have managed to accumulate 89 points but Manchester City have gathered two more points so they have been crowned champions for the fourth consecutive season.
So, following a disappointing end to this season, the Gunners have seemingly started planning their summer businesses to bridge the gap with the Citizens.
It has been suggested that the North London club are planning to reinforce the engine room by purchasing a new midfielder. But, signing a new prolific goal-scorer is also on Mikel Arteta’s to-do list this summer.
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have struggled to showcase their best this season so one of them could be sold to make room for a new striker with Nketiah likely to depart.
Sesko to Arsenal
Now, according to the report by Sky Deutschland(via Sport Witness), Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Sesko having been impressed by his displays this season.
The report further claims that the Slovenian has a £56m release clause included in his current contract and the clause can be triggered before the end of June. So, the Gunners will have to splash a big fee to lure the youngster to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, the report says that AC Milan and a few other ‘top clubs’ from England are also interested in signing him. So, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for Sesko.
The 20-year-old, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is a talented player and possesses high potential. He has showcased his qualities for Leipzig this season, scoring 18 goals and registering two assists in 22 starts in all competitions.
So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him. However, the striker is still very young and may take time to settle down in his new surroundings if he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Therefore, Arsenal might be better off signing a more proven striker to reinforce their attacking department in the upcoming transfer window to bridge the gap with Man City.
