Arsenal in ‘pole position’ to sign Leipzig star Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this summer, as per the Mirror.
Although Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah struggled to showcase their best in the recently concluded season, the Gunners managed to score goals fluidly after deploying Kai Havertz in the false nine position.
However, it seems Mikel Arteta’s side are planning to sign a new striker this summer as a potential replacement for Nketiah or Jesus as it has been suggested that one of them could be sold. Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen have all been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium but Sesko is reportedly on their radar as well.
According to the report by the Mirror, Arsenal are willing to sign a young striker who would be working in tandem with Havertz and have identified Sesko as a serious target.
The report further claims that Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in signing Sesko and additionally, a few Serie A clubs have expressed their intentions of purchasing him as well. But, Arsenal are currently in ‘pole position’ to get this deal done with Sesko favouring a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Sesko to Arsenal
It has previously been reported that Sesko has a £55m release clause included in his current contract but the Mirror says that Leipzig are ready to lower their valuation and a fee of around £45m could be enough to get this deal over the line.
After joining the Bundesliga side from their sister club Red Bull Salzburg, Sesko enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the German top-flight this term.
The Slovenian is a highly talented player and is deemed one of the best young strikers in Europe. With the 21-year-old set to be involved in the upcoming European Championship with his nation, there is a possibility his price could increase should he performs excellently in this competition.
Therefore, it appears Arsenal are looking to get this deal done as quickly as possible. Sesko, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, is efficient in dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to finish off his chances and also works hard without possession.
So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to sign him this summer to reinforce their frontline.
