Arsenal ready to trigger release clause to sign Zubimendi
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to trigger Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi’s £51m release clause to sign him this summer, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners are said to be keen on signing a new midfielder ahead of next season and have been linked with numerous names over the last few weeks. Bruno Guimaraes, Douglas Luiz and Amadou Onana have all been mentioned as serious targets but Zubimendi is now emerging as the primary option.
According to the report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal have been monitoring the 25-year-old’s development over the last couple of years and having been impressed by his displays, they have now registered a firm interest in signing him.
The report further claims that Arsenal director Edu Gasper has already made ‘contact’ with Real Sociedad to let them know that the Gunners are ready to trigger the Spaniard’s £51m release clause to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, TEAMtalk states that the North London club are set to face two key issues over this deal. Number one, the player is currently out with Spain to play in the European Championship and won’t be making any move before the end of this tournament.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
The number two, which is the most crucial one, is that Zubimendi doesn’t want to leave La Liga and would prefer a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid if he were to leave his boyhood club this summer. So, Arsenal will have to work hard to persuade the midfielder to move to the Emirates Stadium.
The Spain international is a holding midfielder by traits but can also play in the box-to-box role if needed. He is technically sound, can play out against high-pressing teams, is efficient in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.
So, Zubimendi possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in Mikel Arteta’s system and therefore he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they secure his signature.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to purchase the Spain international in this transfer window to reinforce their midfield department.
