Arsenal hold talks to sign Andriy Lunin this summer
Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Real Madrid over a deal to sign Andriy Lunin this summer, as per the transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
Aaron Ramsdale was the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper and was even the number-one option for Mikel Arteta during the first few games last campaign.
However, following David Raya’s arrival last summer, the Englishman found himself on the periphery. The Brentford star initially joined on a loan deal but his move has been made permanent in this window.
So, it seems Ramsdale’s Arsenal career is all but over as it is highly unlikely that he will remain as a second-fiddle option to Raya next season.
Arsenal have seemingly started exploring options to strengthen their goalkeeping department as they have been linked with a few names in recent times with Lunin emerging as a serious option.
Lunin to Arsenal
Reporting on TBR Football, Bailey has stated that with the Ukrainian’s current contract set to expire at the end of this season, Real Madrid are willing to tie him down into a new long-term contract.
But, Lunin is considering his options and could decide not to sign an extension with Los Blancos. So, if that were to be the case then Real Madrid would be open to cashing-in on him this summer to recoup some transfer fee.
The journalist says that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing him and have already held talks with the Spanish giants to enquire about the details of signing him.
Lunin could be ready to move to the Premier League, therefore, the Gunners might be able to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
However, Bailey claims that Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in him as Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all registered their interest in signing him. So, the North London club will have to overcome stiff competition to get any potential deal done for him.
The 25-year-old, valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt, enjoyed a stellar campaign amid Thibaut Courtois’ injury absence last term, helping Los Blancos win the league title and reaching the Champions League final. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him this summer.
