Arsenal close to signing Riccardo Calafiori this summer
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori this summer, as per the Italian outlet Tutto Juve.
The Gunners are seemingly prioritising signing a new left-sided defender in this transfer window. They were linked with numerous names over the last few weeks with Jorrel Hato and Willian Pacho being among them but Calafiori has emerged as the primary target in recent times.
The 22-year-old has burst onto the scene after displaying promising performances for the Rossoblu last term, helping his side qualify for the Champions League.
Having showcased his qualities in the Italian top-flight, he was selected to play for Italy in the European Championship and displayed glimpses of his qualities on the international stage despite his country’s poor performances.
So, it seems the youngster’s recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed with Arsenal keen on signing him to bolster their defensive department.
Calafiori to Arsenal
According to the report by Tutto Juve, Arsenal have been in talks with Bologna to sign the defender this summer with the Italian club wanting a fee of around £42m plus a sell-on clause to sell their star man.
However, the report states that Arsenal have submitted a proposal worth around £34m plus £8m in bonuses to get the deal done but they don’t want to include any sell-on clause.
The Italian outlet states that although the agreement hasn’t been reached yet, two parties are ‘optimistic’ that a deal will get done over the coming days.
Arsenal have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the player so it looks like the North London club are closing in on a deal to lure the youngster to the Emirates Stadium.
The Bologna star is a left-footed centre-back but is also comfortable playing in the left-back position. He is quick, strong, excellent in the air, extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet, and efficient in defensive contributions.
Calafiori is a talented player with high potential so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they can eventually manage to secure his signature in this transfer window to reinforce their backline.
