Arsenal actively looking to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer
Arsenal are reportedly actively looking to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in the back-to-back seasons, the Gunners are seemingly keen on strengthening the squad this summer to help Mikel Arteta mount a title charge once again and finally win it next season.
They have already signed David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori in this window and additionally, they are working on purchasing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad to strengthen the engine room.
However, Arsenal reportedly also want a new striker and they have been linked with a plethora of names. According to the report by Gazzetta dello Sport, the North London club expressed their interest in signing Victor Osimhen but his £112m release clause has put off Arteta’s side and therefore, they have decided not to push forward with a deal to sign him.
The report further claims that Manchester City star Julian Alvarez – who is said to be open to leaving the Citizens – is another option on the Gunners boss’ wish-list.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
However, the Italian outlet states that Arsenal are currently ‘very active’ in signing Gyokeres and they could decide to secure his signature in this window to bolster the frontline.
The Swedish international reportedly has a £86m release clause in his current contract but Sporting are ready to lower their valuation and are open to accepting around £60m.
The 26-year-old has burst onto the scene after enjoying a productive campaign last term, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.
He is quick, strong, good in the air, can create chances for fellow attackers, has the ability to finish off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession.
Gyokeres possesses the necessary attributes to flourish his career in the Premier League and having already played for Coventry City, he has the experience of English football.
So, he could be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually decide to sign him before the end of this window to reinforce the attacking department.
