Arsenal told to sign Ivan Toney to finally win the title
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has advised Arsenal to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney to finally win the Premier League title next season.
After narrowly missing out on winning the league last term, it was thought that the Gunners would prioritise strengthening their frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer this summer.
However, the North London club haven’t signed a new centre-forward yet with the new season already right upon us. However, it has been reported that Arsenal are still willing to purchase a new striker and could do that before the end of this window.
Now, speaking on the Overlap, Scholes has said that signing a new prolific centre-forward like Manchester City have in Erling Haaland would definitely help Arsenal take the next step and finally win the title.
The former midfielder further claims that Toney, who has already turned 28, could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him as he would guaranteed to score around 25 goals.
Toney to Arsenal
When asked whether Arsenal should sign a striker to win the title, Scholes said:
“I think signing a centre-forward would help. Signing an out-and-out no. 9 like Man City who would score 20 to 25 goals, then yeah, it would help. Ivan Toney is the one who has been mentioned a lot. What is he? 28 years of age. I think in an Arsenal team he could score you 25 goals. I think in a lot of teams he could score 25 goals.”
It has been reported that Brentford are ready to let Toney leave for a fee of around £60m. He has entered the final year of his current deal and has no intention of extending it to play for a bigger club.
Arsenal have been linked with numerous strikers over the last few weeks with Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen being among them. Toney, who currently earns around £20,000-a-week in salary, was also mentioned as a serious option. However, it looked like they decided to ditch their pursuit of the Brentford star.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the Englishman before the end of this window.
