Arsenal considering signing Raheem Sterling before deadline
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a late swoop to sign Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling, as per the Independent.
After enjoying a stellar time with Manchester City, the Englishman opted to move to Stamford Bridge a couple of years ago. But, the move hasn’t turned out to be successful and he has now found himself out of favour.
The West London club’s new manager Enzo Maresca doesn’t see him as the right fit for his system so the Italian has decided to keep him out of the first-team squad.
Sterling has found himself in a difficult situation at the moment and according to the report by the Independent, Arsenal are looking to pull him out of his misery by signing him before tomorrow’s deadline.
The report says Arsenal are planning to sign a new winger to support Bukayo Saka and have also expressed their interest in Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.
Sterling to Arsenal
Although Nico Williams is Arteta’s first-choice target, the youngster is keen on joining Barcelona so Arsenal have cooled their interest in him and are exploring alternative options.
The Gunners boss is an ‘admirer’ of Sterling having already worked together at the Etihad Stadium and the pair has a strong relationship.
However, the report says Arsenal are unwilling to pay any transfer fee to sign him and are only willing to offer him a wage of around £150,000-a-week. The forward currently earns around £325,000-per-week at Chelsea.
Although Sterling has struggled to showcase his best in recent years, he previously displayed his qualities in the Premier League. He is an experienced campaigner and has won multiple league titles.
So, he could guide Arsenal’s young squad to finally win the title if he eventually joins the club before tomorrow’s deadline. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature to reinforce the attack.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have already signed Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino to strengthen the defence and midfield. Additionally, they are aiming to purchase Joan Garcia as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale – who is set to join Southampton.
