Arsenal agree deal to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth
Arsenal have agreed a deal with Bournemouth to sign experienced goalkeeper Neto on a season long loan, according to David Ornstein.
Mikel Arteta has been on the look out for a new No.2 to act as back-up for David Raya after Arsenal agreed a deal worth up to £25m for Aaron Ramsdale.
The England shot-stopper has completed his medical on the south coast and is waiting for the green light to complete his move. However, the deal is dependent on Arsenal signing a suitable replacement.
Joan Garcia emerged as Arteta’s prime target but Arsenal saw their £18m offer rejected by Espanyol with the La Liga outfit insisting on the full value of his £25m release clause. It appears Arsenal are reluctant to pay that figure and have now turned their attention to signing a cheaper alternative.
David Ornstein is one of several reporters claiming that Arsenal are now targeting a move for Neto and have agreed a simple year-long loan deal with Bournemouth for the South American. The deal doesn’t include any buy option or obligation to buy next year.
Medical
Neto is set to undergo his medical today and complete his loan to the Emirates Stadium where the 35-year-old will act as deputy to Raya this season.
The 6ft 3in stopper has vast experience having played for the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Valencia during his career and he should be a solid addition to Arsenal’s goalkeeping department.
Arsenal are also reportedly in the market for another goalkeeper to support Raya and Neto after No.3 Karl Hein joined Real Valladolid earlier in the summer.
Arteta is also eyeing another player to complement his attack with Raheem Sterling emerging as a surprise target during the closing hours of the window.
