Round six of the Premier League season continues on Saturday as the campaign begins to take shape. Saturday afternoon will see several fixtures being played simultaneously with the match between Arsenal and Leicester City being a part of that. 

These two teams will most definitely be competing at the opposite ends of the table as they fight to achieve their most important goals this season. 

For Arsenal, that will be winning the Premier League title. Last season saw them put up amazing numbers. They were the best team in the League and had their best points tally since the ‘Invincibles’ season but that was not enough to dethrone Manchester City. 

This year they will once again be attempting to knock City off their perch and they may be the only team in the League with the ability to do so. The title race may end up being a two-horse race but Arsenal won’t care about that as they only want to be champions regardless of who they are competing against. 

The title race last season went on to the final day and Arsenal had done well to push it that long but some slip-ups and bad results along the way saw them fall short in the chase for the title. This year they will be looking to plug all those gaps and surpass Pep Guardiola’s men. 

The manager believes that the heartbreak of last year will drive them to new heights this year. Winning their first League title in over two decades will be foremost in the minds of Arsenal coaches, players and fans alike and it may well happen for them this year.  

Arteta told ESPN: “I don’t want to get over it (the pain of losing the Premier League title last season). I am really satisfied with the way the team is performing, the way the players are evolving, what the team transmits, and the momentum we have as a football club. In all departments, not only on the men’s side but the women’s side, what we are doing with the academy, the prospects that we have there.

“But we need that pain and that hunger to achieve what we want to achieve because the competition is unbelievable and we are going to need everybody feeling that way to achieve it.”

The goal will be to win every single game for the Gunners and Leicester City are the next team standing in the way of their success. 

This will be Leicester City’s biggest test since getting promoted to the Premier League. The Foxes will not be expecting much from this fixture but they will not roll over and allow themselves to be walked over either.  

They will try to frustrate the home side as much as possible and prevent Arsenal from playing their best game.

 With the ultimate goal for Leicester being promotion to the Premier League, this match early in the season may not hold significance as they will not be expected to win or even get a draw. This will be a free hit for Leicester and they may decide to even go on the attack against Arsenal. 

Historically, the Emirates Stadium has not been a good place to visit for Leicester as they have only taken points off Arsenal twice in their last 10 visits to North London (one win, one draw and seven losses).

Their last visit to the Emirates Stadium in the League was two years ago when they lost 4-2 to Arsenal. A first-half brace by Gabriel Jesus was cut in half by an own goal for William Saliba. Granit Xhaka made it 3-1 before James Maddison scored again to make it 3-2 but it was the Gunners who had the last laugh through Gabriel Martinelli in the 75th minute. 

The Brazilian’s goal sealed the win for Arsenal in a very entertaining match. 

If Steve Cooper’s men can make it a contest like it was two seasons ago, then they will be happy with their trip to Arsenal.

Arsenal are going into this game with all their players fully healthy and they will put their best foot forward in search of three more points. More than anything, Arteta’s men are desperate to win the Premier League and their determination will be scary for a team like Leicester who are trying to find their feet after promotion. 

Leicester City, on the other hand, will be holding on to the possibility of a miracle result against the Gunners although accomplishing such a mission is a nearly impossible task. They will have all their players available for the game.

Arsenal will play their regular 4-3-3 formation to dominate the game on both ends of the pitch. Jorginho will be in the starting lineup for this match to ensure the Gunners have even more control in midfield while giving Declan Rice the license to take more risks and take more forward runs and/or carries with the ball.

Prediction

The Gunners will aim to assert their dominance in the early stages and put fear in the hearts of the Leicester players with fast-paced play and direct attacks. They will dominate the ball for a good portion of the match and pin their opponents back. 

Leicester will know the task at hand for them and the newly promoted side will find a trip to the Emirates a little too much for their current capabilities.
