Arsenal will travel to Gewiss Stadium to face off against Atalanta in their opening Champions League fixture tonight.

The Gunners have had a promising start to this season as they have been unbeaten in the Premier League. Most importantly, they defeated arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur ahead of this encounter away from home and that result will give a big boost to them.

Mikel Arteta’s side will take on Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend and they won’t want to go that fixture off the back of a disappointing result. So, Arsenal will be desperate to come away with all three points from this encounter.

However, beating Atalanta away from home won’t be easy. They won the Europa League last season but have had a topsy-turvy start to this season, winning two games and losing as many in Serie A thus far.

Team news

Declan Rice was suspended in the North London derby but he is set to return in this encounter. Martin Odegaard remains sidelined with an ankle issue that he sustained during the international break and he could be ruled out for a month as a result of his problem.

Gabriel Jesus has returned to full fitness after recovering from his injury problem but Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mikel Merino are unlikely to return just yet owing to their respective injury issues.

Bukayo Saka picked up a knock last time out but he should be ready to feature tonight. Moreover, Riccardo Calafiori is also available for selection in this game.

Predicted line-up

Arteta is unlikely to make many changes to his starting eleven from weekend’s North London derby victory so David Raya should keep hold of his place between the sticks.

William Saliba has been the mainstay of Arsenal’s backline in recent years and was excellent last time out, while Gabriel Magalhaes helped his side come away with all three points by scoring the winner versus Tottenham.

So, the duo is set to continue at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, while Ben White and Jurrien Timber should be the two fullbacks.

Rice should return to the engine room and Thomas Partey and Jorginho are expected to commence alongside the Englishman to complete the midfield trio amid Odegaard’s absence.

Bukayo Saka is set to keep hold of his place in the right flank, while Leandro Trossard might commence on the opposite side ahead of Gabriel Martinelli. Kai Havertz is likely to be the number nine for Arsenal in this encounter as well therefore, Jesus could feature off the bench.
