Arsenal ready to revive interest in signing Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly planning to revive their interest in signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, as per journalist Charles Watts.
The Gunners were seemingly keen on signing a new striker in the summer as they were linked with a plethora of options with Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen among them. Moreover, the Slovenian was one of them as well.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side eventually opted not to sign a new striker before the deadline and instead, they decided to sell Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace.
Now, writing in the Daily Briefing(via Caught Offside), Watts has reported that Arsenal did a lot of ‘groundwork’ to sign Sesko this summer as he was their primary target.
Therefore, following the youngster’s decision to remain at Leipzig, Arsenal didn’t go for any alternative option. But, the journalist says Arsenal want to sign a new striker and will now revisit to lure Sesko to the Emirates Stadium next summer.
Sesko to Arsenal
Sesko has enjoyed a stellar start to this season, scoring six goals and registering three assists in nine appearances in all competitions. He even scored twice against Juventus in the Champions League last week, unfortunately, Leipzig eventually lost the game 3-2 despite playing with a man advantage for almost the entirety of the second half.
The 21-year-old is a highly talented player and he is believed to be destined for the top. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal.
Sesko reportedly has a £63m release clause in his current contract so he won’t be a cheap signing for the North London club should they hire him.
Following Nketiah’s departure, Arsenal currently have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as the two options to deploy in the centre-forward position.
Havertz has been in terrific form in recent times so he has established himself as the first-choice striker in Arteta’s starting eleven, while Jesus has been struggling to showcase his best.
Therefore, signing a new striker would be the right decision. It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can finally manage to secure Sesko’s signature next summer to reinforce their attacking department.
