Arsenal travel to visit Newcastle United on November 2nd in one of the games of the weekend in the Premier League. The Gunners lost controversially in their trip to this ground last season and they will be keen to make an impression this time instead.

It has been a season of mixed results for Newcastle, while the Gunners have managed to stay consistent with a couple of results even in the absence of skipper Martin Odegaard. Newcastle managed to play out a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, and a win against Tottenham in this same stadium. Based on Arsenal’s last visit, the Gunners will have to be on top of their game like how they have done on multiple occasions this campaign. 

Before the season started, Newcastle United made some tidy signings immediately after the transfer window became open. Lewis Hall made his initial loan move from Chelsea permanent for a fee worth up to £33m. The Magpies almost made it to the Europa League last season but Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Manchester City sent them out of contention. With that disappointment behind them now, Howe and his team have been staying close with the top 8. In addition, injuries affected them a lot last term, but if they can sort that out, they can trouble a lot of teams.

On the other hand, Arsenal had a title challenge last season before falling at the final hurdle to Manchester City. After that strong performance for the second season in a row, the Gunners are expected to address some key areas in the squad. During the transfer window, Arsenal completed the signing of Davide Raya, Ricardo Calafiori joined from Bologna, Mikel Merino, who won the Euro Championships with Spain, also came in from Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber’s return to fitness has been a huge boost for Mikel Arteta and the Dutchman has been playing a key role in his side’s season. 

Meanwhile, Egypt international midfielder Mohammed Elneny has left the club – a true servant of the London club. Aaron Ramsdale, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, and Emile Smith Rowe all left the club in the summer.

The two teams have lost several players to injuries since the season got underway and a number of them could still be unavailable by the time the game is eventually played.

Newcastle won this home Premier League clash between the two teams last season, so they naturally start as the one with the slight advantage. The Gunners have been dogged and conservative on the road this season and that might be the case again when they take to the pitch for this game. Arteta’s side won the second leg 4-1, but this particular encounter is a different ball game entirely and one that promises to be exciting for the neutrals.

Newcastle have players ruled out until the new year – Sven Botman (knee) and club captain Jamaal Lascelles (knee). Prediction

Newcastle will look to press heavily from the front and push their opponents back with sharply direct football when the ball is won. 

Meanwhile, in recent games, Arsenal have shown they can adapt to any situation and opposition. One would expect the Gunners to dominate possession and create a couple of goalscoring chances either from set-pieces or open play.

We expect a hotly contested encounter with the Gunners edging this one.
