Arsenal ‘at the forefront’ to sign Aston Villa star Duran
Arsenal are reportedly ‘at the forefront’ of signing Aston Villa star Jhon Duran, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After joining the Villans from Chicago Fire at the beginning of last year, the 20-year-old initially struggled to find regular game-time at Villa Park. So, the Colombian reportedly became frustrated at Aston Villa and that’s why he was willing to move away this summer.
West Ham United and Chelsea emerged as serious suitors for the South American but Unai Emery’s side eventually managed to keep hold of him.
The forward hasn’t been able to break into Emery’s starting eleven yet and has been used as an impact substitute. He has enjoyed a stellar start to this season, scoring six goals in 10 appearances in all competitions but he only made one start.
Additionally, the forward managed to put his name on the scoresheet for Colombia in a World Cup qualifying encounter against Chile in this international break – where his country won the game 4-0.
Duran to Arsenal
Fichajes states that Arsenal have been following the 20-year-old closely this season and after being impressed by his displays, they are now planning to step up their efforts to sign him.
The Gunners are currently ‘at the forefront’ of securing his signature and they believe Duran would be an ideal option to reinforce the frontline. But the report says purchasing him won’t be cheap as Aston Villa have slapped a whopping £67m price tag on his head.
The youngster recently signed an extension with the Birmingham club and as a result, he currently has more than five years remaining in his current deal. So, Emery’s side are in a strong position to stay firm on their valuation.
It was widely reported that the North London club were looking to sign a new striker in the summer window but they eventually opted not to sign anyone to strengthen the number nine position.
Now, it has been suggested that Arsenal could attempt to make a move for a new centre-forward next year. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates Club eventually decide to do that in 2025 and whether they opt to hire Duran.
