Arsenal eye swoop to sign Brighton star Carlos Baleba

By on October 31, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, as per TalkSPORT.

After joining the Seagulls from LOSC Lille last year, the 20-year-old initially took time to settle down in his new surroundings. But, he has enjoyed a promising start to this campaign. The Cameroonian even scored and assisted against Chelsea in the Premier League last month, although his side ended up losing the game 4-2.

Now, TalkSPORT states that following Baleba’s impressive start to this season, the midfielder has attracted attention from several upper echelons of Premier League clubs with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

However, apart from the Gunners, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also expressed their interest in him with Spurs’ boss Ange Postecoglou a ‘big admirer’ of him.

Baleba to Arsenal

The report says Brighton are under no financial pressure to sell Baleba having made a record profit as a Premier League clubs last year. But, they could be open to letting him leave the club should they receive a lucrative proposal. The 20-year-old is valued at around £18m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2028 with the Seagulls.

The African is a defensive midfielder by traits but can also play in the box-to-box role. He is dynamic, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

Jorginho played in the number six position for the majority of the last term but Thomas Partey has been the regular starter for Arsenal in the defensive midfield position this term.

However, both players’ current contract will expire next summer so Arsenal have seemingly started looking at options to replace the duo with Baleba on their wish-list.

The Brighton star is a talented player and possesses high potential so he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to sign the former Lille star next year.
