Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a swoop to sign Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After joining the Magpies from Real Sociedad back in 2022, the 25-year-old displayed glimpses of his qualities in his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Following that, he enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Tyneside club last term, scoring 21 goals and registering two assists in 30 league appearances. However, the Swedish international has had a slow start to this campaign, although he has scored against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Now, Fichajes reports that Isak’s eye-catching performances for Newcastle haven’t gone unnoticed as he has already attracted the attention of a few upper echelons of Premier League clubs with Arsenal showing the most interest in him.

Arsenal want to strengthen the attacking department by signing a technically gifted and physical player like Isak so they have registered their interest in purchasing him.

The 25-year-old, valued at around £63m by Transfermarkt, has a contract until 2028 with Eddie Howe’s side so they are expected to demand a large sum for him and Fichajes claims that the Gunners are ready to make a ‘significant offer’ to secure his service.

The Sweden international, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is a centre-forward by traits but can also provide cover in the left flank if needed. He is quick, good in the air, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, can link-up the play and has the efficiency of finishing off his chances.

The Emirates club currently have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as the centre-forward options. But, the Brazilian has been struggling to showcase his best in recent times.

So, purchasing a new striker would be the right decision and that would help Mikel Arteta in finally winning the Premier League title. However, there are question marks whether Isak would be the right option to help them achieve their lofty ambitions.

The Magpies star hasn’t been able to showcase his goal-scoring prowess consistently enough to suggest that he possesses the necessary qualities to play for an elite club like Arsenal. Therefore, the North London club might be better off exploring more prolific goal-scorers to strengthen the frontline.
