Arsenal told to spend big to sign Brentford star Mbeumo
Arsenal have been made aware that they will have to splash big money to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, as per Football Insider.
Signing a new right-winger to support Bukayo Saka has been a long-term desire of Mikel Arteta. The Gunners have been getting linked with numerous right-sided attackers in almost every transfer window over the last few years.
However, they haven’t signed a long-term option yet. Raheem Sterling joined the club from Chelsea late in the summer transfer window. However, he is on loan at the Emirates Stadium and is likely to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of this season.
Now, Football Insider states that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Mbeumo to strengthen the frontline after being impressed by his displays thus far this term.
The Cameroonian has enjoyed a productive start to this Premier League campaign as he has scored eight goals in nine appearances. As a result, his side is currently in the top half of the league table.
Mbeumo to Arsenal
However, the report says that Brentford don’t want to let their star man leave in January but they might change their stance if they receive an offer of around £60m from his potential suitors such as Arsenal.
The forward will enter the final year of his current contract next summer but the Bees have an option to extend his deal for one more year. Therefore, they are in a strong position to demand a big fee for him next year.
Football Insider states that Arsenal aren’t the only club aiming to sign Mbeumo as Liverpool are also keen on purchasing him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah – whose current contract with the Reds will expire at the end of this campaign.
The African is a Premier League proven player so he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing him to strengthen the frontline next year.
Meanwhile, after beating Preston North End in the Premier League, Arsenal will take on Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.
