Confirmed line-ups: Newcastle vs Arsenal – Gabriel & Timber start for Gunners
Arsenal return to Premier League action looking to get back to winning ways against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park this afternoon.
Having taken just one point from our last two league fixtures, Mikel Arteta knows we cannot afford to lose any more ground on Manchester City by not bringing all three points back to North London today.
The boss has recalled his big guns with several changes made from the midweek win over Preston in the EFL Cup. David Raya returns in goal so youngster Tommy Setford makes way while Jurrien Timber keeps his place in the back four. The Dutchman moves to left-back with Oleksandr Zinchenko making way while Riccardo Calafiori remains on the sidelines.
Arsenal have been handed a major boost with the news that Gabriel Magalhaes is fit to start after recovering from a knee knock that he picked up against Liverpool last week. William Saliba keeps his place while Thomas Partey moves to right-back with Ben White only fit for a place on the bench.
Declan Rice was given a rest in midweek so he’s recalled to start in midfield this afternoon with Jorginho dropping out. Mikel Merino keeps his place in the middle of the park while Leandro Trossard comes in for Ethan Nwaneri despite growing calls for the youngster to start in the league after another impressive display in the EFL Cup.
Bukayo Saka returns to the Arsenal starting line-up with Raheem Sterling the man to drop out. Kai Havertz is also recalled to start up front after coming off the bench to score against Preston on Wednesday night. Gabriel Martinelli starts on the left wing while Gabriel Jesus is on the bench despite breaking his goal scoring duck on Wednesday night.
