Arsenal plot swoop to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo
Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, as per Caught Offside.
After moving to Gtech Community Stadium from French side Troyes back in 2019, the 25-year-old has been a key player in Thomas Frank’s starting eleven over the years.
The Cameroonian helped his side gain promotion back in 2021 and since then, the Bees have been a regular member of the Premier League. Following Ivan Toney’s departure last summer, Mbeumo has established himself as a talismanic figure for Brentford and he has had a promising start to this season, making nine goal contributions in 12 Premier League appearances.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are interested in signing Mbeumo and Brentford are prepared to cash-in on him if they receive an offer of around £40m.
The player’s existing contract will expire in 2026 so Frank’s side are seemingly ready to sell him next year to avoid losing him for free.
However, the report say purchasing the African won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Newcastle United, Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa are also keen on securing his service.
Mbeumo to Arsenal
Mbeumo is predominantly a left-footed right-winger but can also play as a second striker and in the centre-forward position. He is technically sound, strong, efficient in taking penalties and works extremely hard without possession.
Strengthening the right-wing position to support Bukayo Saka has been a long-term desire of Mikel Arteta. However, the Gunners haven’t been able to sign a long-term option to add depth in this position.
They have Raheem Sterling at their disposal but has joined the club on a loan deal and is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of this season. They also have Gabriel Jesus and he can provide cover in this position if needed but the Brazilian hasn’t been able to showcase his best in recent times.
Mbeumo is a highly talented player and is a Premier League proven forward so he should be able to hit the ground running straightaway if he were to join Arsenal next year.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service to reinforce the attacking department.
