Arsenal ‘pushing’ to agree deal to sign Alexander Isak
Arsenal are reportedly ‘pushing’ to agree on a ‘multi-million-dollar’ deal to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners had an inconsistent start to this season but following the November international break, they have started looking at their best once again. They have scored 13 goals in the last three games in all competitions.
Mikel Arteta’s side are currently second in the Premier League table with 25 points from 13 games, sitting nine points behind the league leaders Liverpool.
It has widely been suggested that the North London club lack firepower in their frontline and they need to sign a new prolific goal-scorer to finally win the Premier League title.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal have identified Isak as an ‘ideal’ striker and are ‘pushing’ to agree on a ‘multi-million-dollar’ deal to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Isak to Arsenal
Newcastle don’t want to sell the Swedish international but they know that keeping him won’t be easy as the striker would be tempted to join a top club like Arsenal if they come knocking on his door.
Arteta’s side are even ready to break their transfer record – which is £105m that they paid to hire Declan Rice from West Ham United last year – to get the deal done and are prepared to submit a £112m proposal in the upcoming winter window.
Isak is a versatile forward as he is a centre-forward by traits but is also comfortable in the left flank. Arteta likes to have players – who can play multiple positions so he would fit perfectly into the Spaniard’s system.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign in the Premier League last term, scoring 21 goals and registering two assists in 27 starts. Now, he has had a slow start this season but has netted against top teams like Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and the Gunners. He helped his side come away with all three points against both the North London club.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to sign the Newcastle star in the January window.
Meanwhile, following a 5-2 victory over West Ham United, Arsenal will now take on Manchester United at home in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
