Arsenal eye move to sign Bologna star Santiago Castro
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Bologna forward Santiago Castro, as per Caught Offside.
The Rossoblu have been producing existing young talents in recent times and the Gunners signed Riccardo Calafiori from them last summer. After moving to the Emirates Stadium, the Italian has established himself as a key player in Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven. He even scored against Manchester City – which helped Arsenal come away with a point from the Etihad Stadium.
Bologna also helped Joshua Zirkzee develop and the North London club were linked with a move for him before Manchester United won the race to sign him last summer. However, the Dutchman hasn’t been able to settle down in the Premier League yet this season.
Jhon Lucumi is another player who attracted the attention of several big European clubs last summer. But, Bologna eventually managed to keep hold of him, however, he continues to be linked with a move away from the club.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in Castro and they could make a concrete approach to secure his service next year. Bologna want around £33m to sell him and he has a contract until 2028.

However, Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in the Argentinian as Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton are also in this race, while Juventus and Inter Milan have been impressed by him as well.
The 20-year-old moved to Renato Dall’Ara last January and was a squad player last term. But, following Zirkzee’s departure, he has now established himself as a first-choice centre-forward for the Italian club. He has been in fine form thus far this season, making 11 goal contributions in 15 appearances in the domestic competitions.
The South American helped his side beat AS Roma in Serie A last month by scoring and assisting one goal each. Moreover, he provided an assist against Juventus last weekend.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two striker options Arteta currently has at his disposal. But, the Gunners could do with signing a more prolific goal-scorer.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to sign the South American next year to strengthen the centre-forward position.
