Arsenal register interest in signing Barcelona star Torres
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Barcelona star Ferran Torres, as per transfer journalist Ekrem Konur.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in the last two campaigns, Mikel Arteta made it clear ahead of this season that his primary objective is to finally win the league this term.
With the hope of achieving that the North London club signed Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino to reinforce the backline and the midfield department respectively last summer.
Moreover, following Aaron Ramsdale’s departure, Neto was hired on a loan deal to support David Raya, while Raheem Sterling was signed to add depth to the attacking department.
However, Arsenal have had a topsy-turvy start to this season and are currently third in the Premier League with 29 points from 15 games, sitting six points behind the league leader Liverpool – who have a game in hand.
Torres to Arsenal
Now, Arteta has hinted that Arsenal could attempt to strengthen the squad in January and writing on X, Konur states the Emirates club are interested in Torres.
However, purchasing the Spaniard won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Juventus are also keen on signing him.
Konur wrote:
“Barcelona winger Ferran Torres remains an option for Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Juventus.”
After joining the Blaugrana from Manchester City back in 2022, Torres has been playing as a squad player in recent campaigns. In six La Liga starts this season, he has made five goal contributions.
He is right-winger by traits but can also play in the centre-forward position as well as on the left. Purchasing a new right-winger to support Bukayo Saka has been a long-term target of Arteta. Sterling joined last summer but he is a stopgap solution and it appears they are planning to sign a new long-term right-winger.
Torres is a talented player and is still very young. So, although he hasn’t been able to flourish in his career at Barcelona yet, he still has time on his side to reach his full potential and a change of environment could be helpful for him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to sign the Spain international in January or next summer.
